Additional Biographical Information:

According to census and Indiana marriage records, Elizabeth Hull was born in June, 1832 in Ohio. She married Henry Kirkum Brown at Nobel County, Indiana on March 22, 1849. To this union were born known children: Eliza Jane, Sawyer Baxter, Mary Esther, Abraham Lincoln, Juliette, Henry Cloyd, and Adam. The family was in Noble County, Indiana in 1850 and St. Croix County, Wisconsin in 1860.

Elizabeth Brown filed for a pension as Henry Brown’s widow in April, 1865. She and the children were in Allen County, Indiana in 1870. She married David Pollock on October 4, 1877 at Allen County, Indiana.

In June, 1900 she was living in Jewell County, Kansas near Ionia with her daughter and son-in-law Mary and John Sipe. Elizabeth Pollock married James Bridges December 29, 1900 (from Jewell County marriage records). In December, 1904 she filed for divorce from James Bridges in Jewell County District Court (according to a legal notice in the Western Advocate, Mankato, Kansas, December 6, 1904). Elizabeth Bridges age 72 was living with John and Mary Sipe in Jewell County, Kansas in March, 1905 at the time of the Kansas census.

She was buried in the Ionia, Kansas Cemetery with her daughter’s family. The gravestone has the informal label “Grandma Bridges.” However, the death notice above gave her name as Elizabeth Pollock. She may have changed her name back to Pollock when she divorced James Bridges, and Pollock apparently was a more significant name in her life.
