Benjamin "Ben" Anselmo Abad, Sr., 82, went to be with his Heavenly Father on June 16, 2009. Ben was born in the Philippine Islands and resided in Jacksonville, FL. He was a highly decorated Korean and Vietnam Conflicts Veteran. He retired from the US Navy after 29 years of service. He was an avid collector of coins and stamps and enjoyed cooking, especially for others. He is survived by his wife, Marcela Abad; 3 sons, Vince (Donna), Jody, Ben Jr., and daughter, Sonya (Earl); his brother, Amado; his sister, Engracia; 5 grandchildren, Anna, Victoria, Hannah, Adrienne, and Dylan; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. The family visitation to great friends will be from 6:00pm until 9:00pm, Sunday, June 21, 2009 at Hardage-Giddens Blanding Funeral Home, 5753 Blanding Blvd. Jacksonville, FL 32244. The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, June 22, 2009 at 11:00am in the Chapel of HardageGiddens Blanding Funeral Home with Father Victor Narivelil, C.M.I., officiating. Burial will be at 2:30pm with Full Navy Military Honors at Jacksonville National Cemetery.
