Second of three sons born to Capt. Joseph M. Thompson (1828-1900) and Augusta Miller Thompson (1843-1923).

Graduated from Wabash High School in 1890 and from Rush Medical College (Chicago) in 1894. He was associated in the practice of medicine and surgery in Wabash for several years with Dr. James Henry Ford. Afterward for more than 40 years his office was located over the Downtown Newsstand, and in the latter years of his practice in the Sholty Apartments.

He was company doctor for the Wabash Railway for more than 50 years, and also served the Pennsylvania Railway, the interurban line and many of the local manufacturing plants.

Belonged to the county, district, state and national Medical Societies, and was Wabash City Health Officer for 16 years; served one term as Wabash County Coroner, having been elected on the Republican ticket. Was also physician for several years for the Wabash County Jail and Wabash Infirmary.

Outside his profession, his chief interests were in music and swimming. He played the pipe organ for a number of years at the Wabash Christian Church, besides also playing in the Church orchestra, and provided piano accompaniment for many of the home talent shows and dances of bygone times. He took considerable pride in the fact that he taught more than a score of Wabash youngsters to swim at Lukens Lake and other nearby lakes.

He had been a member of the Elks Lodge for 35 years before entering the National Elks Home in Bedford, Virginia, where he died.
He never married

Died at age 81 years, 8 months, 4 days.
