MATTHEWS, SUSIE MCCARTER - age 89 of Kodak, went home to Heaven on Thursday, September 10, 2009 at St. Mary's Residential Hospice Care in Knoxville, Tennessee.

She was born July 27, 1920 and raised in Union County, TN, and she was a member of First Red Bank Baptist Church, Sevierville.

She was a loving mother and "grand mommy" (as she was known to all of her grandchildren).

She was preceded in death by husbands, Joseph B. McCarter (father of her children) and Henry F. Matthews; parents, John E. and Lennie Monroe; sisters, Edna Sharp, Edith Smith, and Trula Lody; brother, John E. Monroe, Jr.; son-in-law, Art Johnson; and daughter-in-law, Carol McCarter.

Survivors include her: sister, Barbara Johnson of Luttrell; sons and daughters-in-law, Bob J. and Barbara McCarter of Sevierville, Phil McCarter of Sevierville, Mike and Mary McCarter of White Pine; daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Bob Reneau of White Pine, Patricia Johnson of Corryton, and Deborah and Jim Morris of Kodak, with whom she made her home; grandsons and wives, Jeff and Glenna McCarter, Randy and Anna McCarter, Todd and Kathy McCarter, Mark and Linda McCarter, Steve Reneau, Kevin and Frances Reneau, Aaron and Belinda Johnson, Roger and Stacy McCarter, Ryan and Stephanie Morris, Jimmy Morris; granddaughters and husbands, Robin and David Arlinghaus, Teresa and Rick Fann, Kim and Danny Kerr, Angela and Kevin Sexton, LeAnne Johnson, Michelle McCarter; great grandchildren, Madison McCarter, Jessica Ogle and her son Bryson Chambers, Philip and Andrew Arlinghaus, Ashley and Austin McCarter, Misti, Aiden, and Willow McCarter, Jesse Hall and Noah McCarter, Keisha Johnson, Kaitilynn and James Dugger, Whitney Scearce, David and Dede Denton, Nicholas, Carrie Grace, and Jacob Johnson, Megan and Regan McCarter, Ainsley Morris; great-great grandchild, Teresa Diane Denton born September 10, 2009 (as God took an angel to Heaven, He sent one to earth); step-grand- and great grandchildren, Michelle and David Prater and son Neal Havener, Autumn and Tyler Miller, Anthony Parton, Corey Blassingame, Jason and Stephanie Jarnagin, Deidre and Damian Johns, Jessica Holt, Sabrina and Kyla Rose Parton, Cole Johns, Trevor and Blakleah Johnson, Jacob Jarnagin, Carleigh Holt; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

A special thanks to Girling Home Health, Covenant Hospice and St. Mary's Residential Hospice Care for the care, love, and compassion shown to our mother.

Funeral service 7 PM Saturday in the West Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home with Pastor Bill Merritt and Rev. Kevin Sexton officiating.

Interment 2 PM Sunday in Alder Branch Cemetery with her grandsons serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends 5-7 PM Saturday at Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville.
