Married Jane Baylor Chilton on April 6, 1817 in Mill Springs, Wayne County, KY with her father, Rev. Thomas Chilton, presiding.

Charles's son Volney Minor Metcalfe, in his book "Uncle Minor's Stories", says that his father was born in 1793 in Paris, KY and was a veteran of the War of 1812.


From the Owensboro (KY) Examiner, Friday, February 11, 1876, p. 1:

Charles Metcalf, an old hero of the war of 1812, and who was wounded at the storming of Fort Mayes, died in Hopkinsville on the 28th ult. He was aged 83 years.
