Born Linus Reinhard Frey, he played at the second base and shortstop positions for fourteen seasons (1933 to 1943, 1946 to 1948) with the Brooklyn Dodgers, Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds, New York Yankees and New York Giants. He was a member of three pennant-winning teams (1939, 1940 Reds and 1947 Yankees), which includes two world championship squads (1940 Reds and 1947 Yankees). He appeared in a career 8 total World Series games recording 20 plate appearances. He was a three-time National League All-Star (1939, 1941 and 1943). Frey made his big league debut with the Dodgers on August 29, 1933 and appeared in 1,535 career regular season games, while recording 1,482 hits with a .269 lifetime batting average. His career was interrupted while he served in the United States Military during World War II. In addition to the Major Leagues, Frey played in the Pacific Coast League prior to his retirement. He was inducted into the Reds' Hall of Fame in 1961.
