Evelyn M. (Otterson) Auslund, 90, of Elbow Lake, died Monday, Feb. 25, 2002, at Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria.
She was born on March 5, 1911, in Linden, Wis., and was adopted by Nels and Julia Otterson of Barrett. She was baptized by the Rev. Erdahl of Barrett and confirmed by Rev. Ivar Sandberg. She attended school in Glenwood and Grant County. During her younger years she was employed as a nanny in Minneapolis and St. Paul.
Evelyn married K.D. Crowe [Kenneth D] in July 1935. [October 17, 1934] She was employed at Dispatch Cleaners and Laundry in Minneapolis until the Second World War, when she began employment at the Twin City Ordinance Plant in New Brighton. She later graduated from DeGuile Academy of Beauty Culture in Minneapolis and moved to Hoffman, where she bought a beauty shop.
On Sept. 29, 1946, she married Joel Auslund. The couple and their family moved to Elbow Lake in 1950, where Mr. Auslund had bought a truck line. Later, Mrs. Auslund opened a beauty shop in her home. They moved to Apache Junction, Ariz., where they managed mobile home events for eight of the 11 years they lived there. In 1996, they moved back to Hoffman. Mr. Auslund died In 1987, in 1989, Mrs. Auslund moved to the Vart Hjem Apartments in Elbow Lake.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Joel; half brothers and half sisters, Grant and Alvin, Lila, Betty, Julie, Alice and Donna.
She is survived by her children, Marcia Huseth of Naples, Fla., Bill Crowe of Ashby, and Camille Mickelson and Dennis Auslund, both of Elbow Lake; stepchildren, Delano Auslund of Hutchinson and Darlene Spaulding of Rochester; half brothers and half sisters, Ross, Joe, Lonnie, Lyle, Eunice and Faye; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; 12 great-step-grandchildren; and numerous cousins, nephews, nieces and friends.
Service: 2 p.m. Friday at Erickson-Smith Funeral Home, Hoffman
