Funeral services for Edgar S. Ballentine Sr., 86, who died at his home in Courtland at 11:15 P.M. Friday, will be held at the home at two o'clock this afternoon, with Rev. R.A. Wailes officiating. Burial will be in the Courtland cemeter, Brown of Decatur directing.
Born and reared in Courtland, Mr. Ballentine was prominent in business and farming circles.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Catherine D. Ballentine; three daughters, Miss Anne Ballentine, Courtland; Miss Eleanor Ballentine, Atlanta, Ga; and Mrs. J.L. Green, Washington, D.C.; two sons, Edgar S. Ballentine Jr, Pulaski, Tenn. and Sam H. Ballentime, Memphis Tenn; three grandsons, Dr. A.M. Ballentine, Pulaski; Rev. Edgar S. Ballentine, Murfreesboro, Tenn and W.M. Ballentine, Montgomery; and other relatives.
Pallbearers will be Albert Turner, Malcolm Lane, W.H. Hudson, Bob Simpson, Stanley Kracke, K.A. Gilchrist, and Dr. J.A. Ussery. Honorary pallbearers will be N.B. Smith, R.E. Coburn, Fred Ashford, Fred Rebman, W.A. Toms, Charlie Vaughan, J.B. Gilchrist, Ed Pippen, L.W. Gentry, and Early Phinizy.

Edgar was the son of James Hamilton Ballentine and Mary Eleanor Swoope Ballentine and he resided at Courtland at time of his death. He was 85 years old.

He married Katie Halsey in Trinity, Morgan County on September 26, 1888. After her death in 1899, he married Kathryn Dinwiddie.
