Calvin Grey Finlayson, 85, Buried Last Saturday

Calvin Grey Finlayson was born Dec. 2, 1851, at Oakville near Mount Carroll, Illinois. He was the son of Jessie and William Finlayson, early pioneers of Illinois. He grew to manhood, attending school at Oakville and later Normal school, after which he taught in the public schools for a number of years.

For about twenty years he farmed the home place at Mount Carroll. In 1902 he moved to Armstrong, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Lottie Stirling of Stout, Iowa, in 1903. In the year of 1912 he brought his family to a farm near Buffalo Center.

Mr. Finlayson was a kind and loving husband and father, having at heart those interests that were for the betterment of the community at large. He was well liked by those who knew him and had a cheery word for his many friends and acquaintances.

During his stay at Armstrong he was a member of the Presbyterian church. Since moving to Buffalo Center he attended the Congregational church, until his age and failing health prevented him from getting around as formerly.

He passed away January 13, 1937, at the age of 85 years, one month and eleven days.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife and four sons, John of Buffalo Center, Robert of San Diego, California, Harry and Wilbur at home; also three grandchildren and one sister, Jennie Finlayson of Wynnewood, Oklahoma.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Congregational church in charge of Rev. Boomgaarden. Interment was at the local cemetery.
