Chippy was my dad's beloved dog when he was a young boy growing to manhood.

Growing up in the outskirts of the city, he and his family had few neighbors. Though they were not a farming family, they had various animals including a sheep named Peanuts, a pony, and a large German shepherd named Loupe who eventually had to be given away for his temperament.

For a young man growing up out in the country, hunting was a normal passtime, and Chippy was my dad's companion on these short excursions. A small but enthusiastic companion, whom my dad remembered very fondly.

Chippy remains in my mind because of one sweet image of her. Dad said Chippy was a mutt, part bird dog, and part pointer, with some other breeds mixed in. She had the bird and pointer instincts, but owing to her small size, had a hard time using them. Dad said in tall grass, Chippy would jump up, take a quick look around, land and then point.
