From Arley Meadows on 07/01/2016: Justus, or Justice, Willey was born about 1825 in Monroe County, Virginia (now West Virginia) to Eber Willey and Rebecca Maddy Willey. Few records exist but it is known that he enlisted in the army (Company I, 4th Tennessee Infantry) in Tazewell, Tennessee on September 16, 1847 to fight in the war with Mexico, enlisting for the “duration of war.” He was mustered in on September 28, 1847 in Knoxville, Tennessee. He mustered out on July 31, 1848 in Memphis, Tennessee. During the course of the war he was wounded in the head and in the thigh. The head wound resulted in him being committed to the Western State Lunatic Asylum in Staunton, Virginia in October of 1852. He died there April 29, 1856 from the thigh wound received in the war; it had never healed and had abscessed. He was in the Asylum for a total of 3 years, 6 months, and 7 days.
