Professional Football Player. For ten seasons (1966 to 1973, 1975 to 1976), he played as a quarterback in the National Football League with the Atlanta Falcons, New York Giants, Washington Redskins and Green Bay Packers. Born Randolph Klaus Johnson, he attended Sam Houston High School in San Antonio and played collegiate football at Texas A&M-Kingsville. He was selected by Atlanta during the 1st round of the 1966 NFL Draft. Johnson holds the distinction as being the first starting quarterback in Atlanta Falcons history, when the franchise joined the NFL in 1966. He appeared in 75 career regular season games, passing for 8,329 yards with 51 touchdowns. He rushed for a career total 573 yards with 10 touchdowns. In addition to the NFL, Johnson played with the Hawaiians of the World Football League prior to his retirement. He died from natural causes.
