Thomas Blitch, R.S. was born about 1743 in St. Mathews Parish in Colonial Georgia (an area which became Effingham County in 1777) to Spier Blitch & Ann Hodges; he died in the Battle of Brandywine Creek (today located in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania) on the 11th of September 1777.
Several descendants have joined NSDAR on his service, including me, Ann Parkinson. His birth place has not been proven.

This memorial cenotaph is located in Effingham County Veterans Park ; another cenotaph is in the Blitchton Community Cemetery in Marion County, Florida
