Former Ventura resident Herman Edward Bokehnke, 79, of Mason City, died Sunday (Jan 19, 1986) at Dallas Center.
Mr. Boehnke was born March 14, 1906, near Garner, the son of Carl and Mathilda (Dorrow) Boehnke. He was a graduate of Garner High School.
He later operated grocery stores in Aurelia, Goldfield and Ventura, and also farmed in the Ventura area. He made considerable contributions to the redistricting success of the Ventura school system, and was secretary for 17 years.
On March 22, 1931, he married Ella E. Dethlefs at Ventura. She died in 1967. On May 31, 1969, he was married to Norma A. Smokstad in Richfield, Minn.
He is survived by his wife, Norma, Mason City; one daughter, Mrs Claude (Charlotte) Ackerman; one son, Lewis; two stepsons, Tom Smokstad and Doudg Smokstad; one sister, Tillie Hinrichs; three brothers, Charles, Arthur, and Arnold and four grandchildren.
