Mrs. Laura T. Ayres, 74, of 111 Canal St., Fort Plain, a prominent churchwosnan and an activist for many years in the humane treatment of animals, died early Saturday morning in Uttle Falls Hospital where she had been admitted the pre-'iotis day. She had been in failing health the past sis months. BorN March 3,1907, in St Paul, Minn., she was a daughter of the Rev Henry B. Taylor, D.D., and Franc Barnett Taylor, She was a graduate of Meriden, Conn,, High School and a 1929 gradpte of St Lawrence University. She taught English and French in Silver Creek High School for one year. Following her marriage to Doulas Ayres, Jr., June 24, 1931, she had resided in Fort Plain raid had served as a substitute in the Fort Plain and Canajoharie school systems until about 1960. Mrs. Ayres was a member of the Church of the Holy Cross, Fort Plain., and secretary of the St. Agnes Guild of the church. She was a member for many years of the Women's Advisory Committee of the Arkell Hall Foundation; the Fort Plain-Nelliaton Senior Citizens' organisation and had served as its reporter for many years. She was also the reporter for Fort Plain Chapter, NDCAR and was a member of the Animal Shelter Association, Inc., Ayres was a member and past president of the Fort Plain Council of Churchwomen. The only survivor is her husband. The Rev. Michael Hartnay officiated at the service for the Burial of the Dead at the Church of the Holy Cross today at 2 p.m. Burial was made in Fort Plain Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Shelter, Inc., Sprskers, the Memorial Fund for Flowers at the Church of the Holy Cross or to the Mid-County Volunteer Ambulance Service. Funeral arrangements were in charge of the Swartz Funeral Home.
