Carsten Groth, resident of Reinbeck for the last thirty-five years died Sunday at his home here after an illness of several weeks. Mr. Groth had been in poor health, apparently suffering from no organic trouble but weakening from the infirmities of his age. Death came to him peacefullly after the illness which brought him but little suffering.

Mr. Groth was born in Schleswig, Germany, February 9, 1852 and lacked but a few days of attaining his eightieth year at death. He was reared in the Lutheran faith and was confirmed in that church in Germany at the age of sixteen. When he was eighteen years old he emigrated to the United States and settled soon afterwards in this part of Iowa.

Feb. 23, 1880, he was married here to Miss Jennie E. Shoemaker and to this union seven children were born. Two preceded their father in death, John in 1925 and Mrs. Emma Matthews in 1927. He is survived by his wife and five daughters: Mrs. Louise Schiefelbein, of Sumner, Iowa; Mrs. Sopha Revvoldt and Miss Amelia Groth of Des Moines; Mrs. Rose Slessor, Hudson, and Mrs. Ella Schildroth, Grundy Center. There are also sixteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Mr. Groth farmed in this community for a number of years, moving to Reinbeck about thirty-five years ago to make his home.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 at the Congregational church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. L. C. Emigholz. Burial was in the Reinbeck Cemetery.
