FINAL RITES HELD FOR
ARTHUR MEREDITH

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 29, at two p.m. from the Shabbona Reorganized Church of Latter Day Saints for elder Arthur Meredith, 78, who died Saturday, Oct. 26, in Deckerville Hospital after an extended illness. Elder Howard Gregg, local pastor, and Elder John W. Blackstock of Middletown, Ohio, officiated. Burial was in Elkland Cemetery.

A lifetime resident of the county, Mr. Meredith was born May 31, 1879. He married Anna K. Brown April 11, 1906, at Saginaw. She died April 19, 1951. He married Mrs. Margaret Phillips at Sandusky Sept. 27, 1952.

He was a member of the Shabbona RLDS Church and was pastor of the church- for several years until his health failed. He served as County Road Commissioner for about eight years, was president of the Evergreen Community Club for 19 years and served several years as a member of the Sanilac County 4-H fair board.

Mr. Meredith was a former president of the County Dairy Association and a former president and active member of the Shabbona Farm Bureau. He was also a member of River Arbor Gleaners Association.

Surviving are his widow; one daughter, Miss Marie Meredith, at home; two sons, Grant Meredith of Snover and Clark Meredith of Sandusky; five grandchildren; two stepsons, Doyle Phillips of Detroit and Clarence Phillips of Decker; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Edward Hillaker of Tyre; four step-grandsons; two brothers, Albert R. Meredith of Caro and Charley Meredith of Sandusky; two sisters, Mrs. Violet Styles of Caro and Mrs. Anna Meddaugh of Detroit; a nephew, Leland Meredith of Marlette, who made his home, with Mr. Meredith, and several other nephews and nieces.
