Mrs. Emma Groth Matthews, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carsten Groth of this place, died Tuesday afternoon at 5 o'clock at her home in Des Moines, after an illness of more than a year. She is believed to have contracted pulmonary tuberculosis while caring for a brother, John Groth, and her health failed gradually untill last week her parents were called to her bedside. They returned home Sunday believing she was improving but Tuesday a turn came and death quickly followed.

Emma Groth was born in Grundy County Dec. 16, 1884. She lived in Reinbeck most of her early life and April 17, 1922, she was married to William Matthews, of Des Moines. No children were born to this union, the husband surviving to mourn her death. She is also mourned by her parents and five sisters, Mrs. Louise Schieffelbein, Sumner, Iowa; Mrs. Sphia Rowoldt, and Miss Amelia Groth, Des Moines; Mrs. Rosa Slessor, Hudson and Mrs. Ella Schildroth, Reinbeck.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at the Congregational church here, the services being conducted by Rev. Williams, pastor of Westminster Presbyterian church at Des Moines. The body was brought to the home of the parents in Reinbeck Wednesday. Interment will be in the Reinbeck cemetery.
