A native of Ireland, he met his wife while working for the railroad. They married in Sacramento, his wife's hometown, moving to Nevada in 1896. They were early pioneers, first living in Wadsworth until 1904, when the railroad office was moved to Sparks. He was a foreman for the Southern Pacific Railroad, first started in 1880 and retiring in 1925. He and his wife celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1933. He was a proud father, grandfather and great grandfather, and active member of the community.
