Mrs.Martha A.Hawkins died at her home, near Phillipsburg, on December 7. She was 85 years old.
Martha A.Christian was born March 7,1830 at Lynchburg, VA.
She lost her mother at age 12 and emigrated with her father to Washington County, Illinois.
She united with the Baptist church at age 17 and lived a consistent Christian life.
She married Silas Hawkins on October 3,1850 in Nashville, Illinois and in 1869 they came to Laclede county, settling on a farm near Phillipsburg.
Funeral services were held at the Salem church on Friday, December 8, and interment was in McFall graveyard, by the side of her husband, who died January 22,1892.
She was the mother of ten children, of whom the following survive her, William E. and James M. Hawkins of Oklahoma, Nicholas, John M, Isom B., Wesley E., Thomas L. and Henry C. Hawkins, Louisa Ragland and Mary Jane McFall, all of Phillipsburg, as well as grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
