Bette Chase, age 82 of Washburn, ND died Thursday, Sept. 24 at her home while surrounded by her family following a courageous battle with cancer.

Funeral Services: 11:00 AM Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2009, First Lutheran Church – Washburn, ND; Rev. Erik Johnson, officiating.

Interment: Sunset Memorial Gardens – Bismarck, ND.

Visitation: 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM Monday at Goetz Funeral Home in Washburn; Tuesday, one hour prior to time of service at the church.

Bette was born on September 22, 1927 in Coleharbor, ND, the daughter of John and Emilie (Kemph) Henne. She was raised in Beulah, ND and graduated from Beulah High School. Bette married Earl Chase on August 24, 1946 in Beulah. They lived in Fargo while Earl attended the NDSU School of Pharmacy. Upon his graduation, they moved to Bismarck where Earl was employed at Finney Drug. In 1950, they moved to Washburn where they purchased Williams Drug Store. They later established Chase Drug in Washburn, Hazen Drug in Hazen, Evander's Rexall Drug in Underwood, and Chase Pharmacy in Garrison. Bette enjoyed an active involvement in the family business for many years. She was a member of First Lutheran Church, the Order of the Eastern Star, and the Washburn Study Club. She was a devoted and much loved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Bette's love for family and tremendous cooking ability always brought her family together. Her beauty both inside and out will be remembered by all whose lives she touched. Her courage and strength were an inspiration that we will carry with us forever.

Grateful to be a part of her life are her four children Earlann Archer of Fargo, Candice (John) Cook of Mohall, Michael (Colette) Chase of Hazen, & Cole Chase of Atlanta, GA; nine grandchildren, Allison and Brady Archer, Brenda Jacobson, Brooke (Baboucarr) Archer, Blaine Cook, John, William, Rebecca, and Christine Chase; one great-grandchild, Kaden Jacobson; one brother, Robert (Virginia) Henne of Bismarck; one sister, Irene Kamrath of Bemidji, MN; and many nieces & nephews.

Bette was preceded in death by her husband (Earl), her parents, one brother (A.C. "Bud" Henne), two sisters (Edna Tool and Agnes Bland), and one infant granddaughter.
