CAPTAIN CALEB ST. JOHN, was born in Norwalk, Connecticut around 1731-32. He was the son of Benjamin St. John and Mary (unknown last name) also from Norwalk CT. Caleb St. John was married to Mary Seeley in Norwalk, Nov. 4, 1757. Mary Seeley was born June 18, 1733; and died in New Canaan CT on July 26, 1821. She was listed as the "Mother of Eliphalet," and the daughter of Lieut. Eliphalet and Sarah (Holly) Seeley. Caleb and Mary his wife were received into full communion, in Norwalk, May 28, 1758. Rev. Mr. Drummond in his visitation to New Canaan Church, 1772, gives Caleb St. John, Mary his wife, and Children Mary, Caleb, Sarah,
Eliphalet, with their attendant "Sibl" a female negro slave. Capt. Caleb and wife Mary were admitted to Church at New Canaan, Feb. 27, 1774, in full communion.

AMERICAN REVOLUTION - MILITARY SERVICE
CAPTAIN CALEB ST. JOHN was quartermaster of a Troop of Horse, Norwalk, Commissioned May, 1773; Cornet, May, 1776 (C. Men Rev., vol. iv. 89, 343) He was promoted to the rank of Lieut., 2nd, of a Troop of Light Horse, 3rd Regt. of the State of Connecticut, May, 1778 (Pat. Rec, xi. 25) Lieut. Caleb St. John was promoted to Captain 2nd Troop, Oct., 1778. In his later years, Caleb St. John was listed as a Surveyor of highways, 1786 (T. Meetings Book, p. 198).

Children:
Mary, b. Jan. 17, 1761; in New Canaan CT.; died in N. C, Nov. 2, 1832; married Mar. 16, 1780, to Joseph Wood, who was born Jan. 25, 1755; d. Aug. 4, 1836; the son of Benjamin and Elsie (Hoyt) Wood. She is mentioned in her father's will, dated May 18, 1805. Caleb St. John died in New Canaan (N. C), on Feb. 20, 1805.
