The daughter of Jacob Crites (c.1771-1850) and Catherina Lorance (born c.1767) of North Carolina, Eve's family moved to Missouri between 1810 and 1826.

Eve married George Lutes* on 20 Apr 1826 in Cape Girardeau County, Missouri. He was the son of Johann Georg "George" and Sophia Lutz. Eve's husband was the brother of Jacob Lutes.

In 1832, Eve, her husband and their 2 daughters moved to Calhoun County, Illinois. The girls were both born in Missouri the 1820's. Once the family was settled in Illinois, Eve gave birth to a son around 1832.

Her husband, George, bought 160 acres of government land in Calhoun County and built a log cabin on it. The story was passed down in the family that they had not been living there long when the log cabin burned and $3,000 worth of gold and silver was melted in the fire. George then built a frame house in 1840 that was still standing more than 50 years later.

George most likely died in the 1840's. Their daughter, Sophia, married James M. Cresswell on 22 Oct 1846, and their other daughter, Sarilda, married William E. Lillard on 26 May 1849, with both weddings taking place in Calhoun County. According to the 1850 census, Eve and her son, Jacob, lived alone there, and he worked as a farmer.

At the time of her death in 1852, Eve was 45-years-old.
