Son of Fawn Pioneers, Dies
Adolphus Smith, 78 of 2119 Adams street, Natrona Heights, died this morning at 8:30 after a lingering illness.
Mr. Smith was a life-long resident of the community. He was born July 20, 1872, in Fawn Township.
His family was among the pioneer settlers on the Fawn district, having migrated here from the old Dutch settlement of New Amsterdam.
A former employee of Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corp. in Brackenridge, he had approximately 43 years service in the plant.
In 1945, he was forced to retire after suffering a stroke. Before this, he had been employed in the mill police department. For the greater part of his life he was employed as a millwright.
He leaves his widow, Anna Martha Eloise Smith, who is in Allegheny Valley Hospital.
Other survivors include 12 children: Clifford E Smith, Natrona Heights; Mrs. Clara Held, Apollo; Mrs. Helen Mosley, Tarentum; Mrs. Leona Roy, Gibsonia; Phillip Smith, Sarver; Ralph C. Smith, Tarentum; Mrs. Francis Bayer, Columbus, Ohio; Mrs. Evelyn Simak, New Kensington; Mrs. Lillian Schlenke, Brackenridge; LaGene Smith, Lower Burrell Township; and William C. and Mrs. Vivian Craig, both of Natrona Heights.
He also leaves two sisters, Isabella Prentice, Bath, N.Y. and Mrs. George Heigert, Natrona Heights.
Friends are being received in the family home. Funeral arrangements have not yet been made.
