Mr. Alonzo Wilkes, 84, of Route one, Uvalda, Alston Community, died at his home Wednesday afternoon, July 8, 1987, after a long illness. Born in Emanuel County, he lived in this area all his life. He was a retired farmer, member of the Normantown Baptist Church and was a member of the Milligan Creek Masonic Lodge at Cedar Crossing.
Mr. Wilkes is survived by his wife, Mrs. Alice Turner Wilkes of Uvalda; one daughter, Mrs. Juanite Grimes of Uvalda; a son, Emory Paul Wilkes of Jacksonville, Florida; a step-son, J.W. Turner of Uvalda; seven grandchildren; Mrs. Diane Carroll, Mrs. Ann Miller, Mrs. Lonette Bolden, Mrs. Monica C. Wilkes, William Stewart, Charles Eric Turner and Emory W. Turner of Uvalda; one brother, Herman Wilkes of Lyons; also seven great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild, along with a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, July 11, 1987, at 3 p.m. from Peace Chapel in Lyons with Rev. Henry Dowd and Rev. Roy Grimes officiating. Interment was in Sharpe's Cemetery near Alston with Masonic Rites conducted by Milligan Creek Masonic Lodge.

Jones-Stewart Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
