The son of Volley Bruce Runyon and Mary Elizabeth Bair, Carl married Clara Alice Schwada on 28 Dec 1927 in Clarence, Shelby County, Missouri. She was a teacher at that time.

The family lived in rural Shelby County, and Carl was a farmer during the early years of their marriage. He later took a job as a wet sander at a motor assembly plant. Clara worked as a slat sorter for a venetian blind company. They were the parents of 2 children.

The Runyons were members of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church located north of Epworth, Missouri.

At the time of his death at a Kirkville hospital, Carl was 71 years, 9 months and 14 days old.

He was survived by his wife, Clara; 1 son, John Runyon of St. Charles, Missouri; 1 daughter, (Living) Lucas of Winchester, Illinois; 6 grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Maurine Beckett of Shelbina, Missouri, and Wilma Bailey of Lebanon, Missouri.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Harold Runyon, who died 25 days before Carl.

Visitation was held at Greening Funeral Home in Shelbyville Funeral services were conducted there at 2 p.m. on the afternoon of 31 Aug 1976.

Carl's wife, Clara, passed away in 2004 at the age of 97.

Children: 1 son, 1 daughter.

Wedding announcement:

Miss Clara Schwada, popular school teacher of the Hagers Grove vicinity, and Carl Runyon of near Shelbyville were quietly married at the parsonage of the officiating minister, Rev. Chas. Reep, Wednesday evening, December 28, at 5:30 o'clock. Miss Maurine Runyon, sister of the groom, accompanied them and witnessed the ceremony.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Schwada of near Hagers Grove and has been a very efficient teacher of the Copenhaver school. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Runyon of near Shelbyville and has been associated with his father in farming. They will probably make their home with her parents until her school term is finished.

Following the ceremony they returned to the bride's home where a wedding supper awaited them, with members of both families as guests, and on Thursday they were guests of honor at a dinner given at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Runyon.
