Memorial Services for Eleanor L. Thomsen will be held on Monday, March 1, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Holdrege, Nebraska with Pastor Darren Theesen officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Prairie Home Cemetery in Holdrege.

Eleanor Lois (Hollenbeck) Thomsen, 93 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Tuesday, February 23, 2021, at Holdrege Memorial Homes in Holdrege. Eleanor was born on February 7, 1928, in Hildreth, Nebraska, the fifth of eight children, born to Loyd F. and Edna F. (Merithew) Hollenbeck. She received her education from Holdrege Public Schools and later attended and graduated from Holdrege High School with the class of 1946.

On June 28, 1947, Eleanor was united in marriage to Darrell L. Thomsen, in Holdrege, and they were blessed with four children: Bruce, Elizabeth, Roxanne and Marti. The family made their home in Minden, Nebraska, until moving to Holdrege in 1952, where they owned and operated the D&T Body Shop and T&C Trailer Park. Eleanor spent most of her time being a wonderful homemaker and tending to her family.

Eleanor was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church in Holdrege, where she was active in the Women’s Church Group ABWM. She delivered Meals on Wheels, and was a past president of Mrs. Jaycee’s, a Charter member of Does, a member of the Democratic Women, and volunteered for the Phelps County Food Pantry for 12+ years.

During their retirement years, Eleanor and Darrell enjoyed traveling together and in her spare time she enjoyed bowling in the Housewife league, tending to her flowers, crafts, and playing cards.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents and husband Darrell Thomsen in 2003; one daughter, Marti Thomsen in 1958 at the age of 2 years old; one brother, John “Bud” Hollenbeck and his wife, Carol; sisters: Geneive Leapold and her husband, Floyd; Martha “Sis” Barnett and her husband, Richard; Jean Hrelja and her husband, Frank; and Gayle Correll; brothers-in-law: Gary Philips; and Duane “Ted” Schroder.

Eleanor is survived by; one son, Bruce Thomsen and his wife, Carla of Holdrege: two daughters: Roxanne Lush and her husband, John of Holdrege; and Elizabeth Deisley of Lincoln, Nebraska; seven grandchildren: Georgia Lee and her husband, Boe of Lincoln; Heather Melroy and her husband, Troy of Holdrege; Lisa Vineyard and her husband, Lee of Holdrege; Jason Deisley and his wife, Becki of Crete; Brandon Palmer and his wife, Joyce of Wilbur, Nebraska; Jake Thomsen and his wife, Julie of Kearney; and Ellie Schroeder and her husband, Seth of Kearney; 17 great-grandchildren; sisters: Gwen Schroder of Northglenn, Colorado; Claudia Philips of Bertrand, Nebraska; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege is in charge of arrangements.
