Claude Gore King, Sr., 90, passed away on Tuesday, October 13, 2009 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

Mr. King was born in Stump Sound in Onslow County and lived in or around Wilmington for his entire life. He was the youngest of 12 children born to Van King and Josephine Simmons King and was preceded in death by his loving wife Althea Haskett King.

During his life, he was a watchmaker, a jeweler and a minister. Mr. King started and/or served in churches in Castle Hayne, Shallotte, Hampstead, Old Dock, Murrayville and other locations. He was most recently a member of Folkstone Baptist Church. Claude attended Fruitland Bible College in Hendersonville, N.C. Mr. King enjoyed baseball and auto racing and actively preached the word of God until the very end.

He is survived by his son, Claude G. King Jr. and wife Susan of Prospect, Kentucky, his sister Atlanta Taylor of Wilmington and two grandsons, Brian King and wife Sherry of Statesville and Eric King of Shallotte along with his sisters in law, Kathryn Haskett and Eleanor Haskett.

A funeral service will be held 2pm Saturday, October 17. 2009 at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel. Interment will follow in Oleander Memorial Gardens.
