Clifton was the 4-year-old son of Walter A. and Charlotte Tripp. The Omemee Herald newspaper reported he died of croupous laryngitis. "He was an exceptionally bright little boy and was a favorite with all who knew him. The sympathy of the community goes out to them in their hour of grief over a loss so overwhelming." His father, Walter, was born in February 1880 in Minnesota and married Charlotte Hogge, born in February 1880 in Hamilton, Ontario. Walter and Charlotte made their home in Omemee for many years. Walter was in partnership with his brother- in-law in an implement business known as Holz and Tripp. Using the same business building, Walter managed the Omemee Opera House, which was the focal point of culture in the town. Traveling shows came to town and put on plays in the opera house along with local actors and high school productions. Later, Holz and Tripp moved their business to Bottineau. Walter and Charlotte retired and moved to Fullerton, California. Besides Clifflon, they also had a daughter, Helen (Horning.)
