Born April 3, 1845 in Warren Twp., Marion Co., IN to parents Benjamin Larue Whiteside (b. 1816) and Lucinda Craig (1817-1858); siblings: William T. (1841-1850), John H. (1843-1851), James H. (1843-1925), Benjamin F. (1845-1845), Oliver (1846-1911; Co. D, 38TH IND INF), Sarah Ann (1849-1850), Franklin (b. 1850), Asbury (b. 1851), unnamed infant sister (1858-1858), and Lucinda "Lucy" (b. 1858); farmer; volunteered as a substitute in Co. D, 38th Indiana Infantry on Oct. 7, 1864; mustered out July 15, 1865; lived in Mt. Comfort, Buck Creek Twp., Hancock Co., IN at the time of the 1870 federal census; married Miss Mary Elizabeth Charlotta (b. @1847); children: Emma (b. @1869); died at age 25
