The funeral for Sidney Ambers, 70, of Minot, formerly of the Maddock and Fessenden areas of ND, will be held on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at the Viking Lutheran Church, rural Maddock. Interment will be in the church cemetery in block 3 plot 81. He died on 10 Apr 1998 at Trinity Medical Center in Minot. Pastor Bill Hall officiated. Pallbearers were Richard Lynne, Dean Lindgren, Sigvart Fossen, Odin Fossen, Alf Dybing, Glenn Davidson, Howard Berglund and Arnold Hanson. The Nelson Funeral Home of Maddock was in charge of arrangements. Sidney Clinton Ambers was born on 28 May 1927 at Manfred to Arnold and Alice Wigan Ambers. At a young age the family moved to a farm near Hamberg, where he was raised. He attended the Lynne Rural School. He later attended BCATS in Maddock. He was baptized at the Manfred Lutheran Church and confirmed at the Viking Lutheran Church. Hen entered the Navy on 7 Jun 1942 and served as a welder during WWII. He was discharged in the fall of 1946 as a Seaman First Class. He farmed for a time with his father and later operated a blacksmith shop in Bremen. He married Mavis Olson on 19 Jun 1949 at Maddock. They moved to Fargo in 1953 and he worked for the Fargo Fire Department until 1974. They moved to Pelican Rapids, MN where he worked at the Ebare Ranch until 1968, when he bought and operated a bar and grill in Cormorant Village, MN. Also in 1968 he co-founded 12th Avenue Furniture in Fargo. In 1981 they moved to Fessenden and farmed near Hamberg until ill health forced him to retire in 1996. They moved to Minot in September of 1997. He was a member of VFW Post 5252 of Pelican Rapids, MN, the Amvets in Fargo and the Harvey Eagles Club. Survivors include his wife, Mavis of Minot; two sons, Clinton Ambers of Fargo and Arne Ambers of Ryder, ND; four grandchildren; and four sisters, Marion Swanson of Devils Lake, Fern Sabbe of Casper, WY, Ardis Ambers of Fargo and Annette Martel of Mayville, ND. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Myron who died in 1993.
