Dorothy was born on Sept. 6, 1904, in Chadwick, Ill., daughter of the late John and Emma (Hartman) Zugschwerdt. The family moved to South Dakota. When he was a young child the family took a covered wagon west then returned to Garden City, S.D. She was united in marriage to Earl Dumke on Oct. 16, 1924, in Watertown, S.D. In the late 40s, they moved to Fleming Township in Aitkin County where they farmed and ran a fishing resort on Fleming Lake until the early 80s. They moved to Brainerd in the 80s. She was married to Earl 72 years at the time of his death in 1996. She was an active member of the Fleming Methodist Church Ladies Guild and member of Lord of Life Lutheran in Baxter. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting and fishing.
Dorothy is survived by one son, William (Sandy) Dumke, of Pequot Lakes; one daughter, Arlene (Lester) Schneider, of Canton, S.D.; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl; six brothers and three sisters. Arrangements entrusted to the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter.
