SPOUSE: Ernest Rue Davidson (1875-1950)
Married: March 11, 1903,Deer Lodge, Morgan County,TN.
Ettie lived on their grandfather Stearns' farm in Boon, MI. Ethel took her along to school one day and Etta cried all day. After their mother died, they moved to Morgan co TN, the grandparents raised the girls. Their father remarried, had Carlton and Ione and 2 other half siblings. In 1903 Etta and Ernest Davidson came by train out to Hoquiam,WA where he was a painter and carpenter. they had a paint, wallpaper and picture framing store on L st.and lived at 922 Maple st in Hoquiam. they went up to Neah Bay by sailing ship where her sister Ethel and her husband Frank Briggs had a trading post. The Makah Indians came out to the ship in their canoes, waded through the water to carry the ladies ashore so they wouldn't get their dresses wet. their oldest boy, David, was crippled, so Etta always had 2 in diapers as the other children were born. Since Sam lived with his mother most of his life, Etta baked him a birthday cake on Oct 18 every year. She said that someone had made a mistake on his birth cert. Ernest and Sam remodeled and built many houses, moving to Malone and Elma. As a child in TN, Etta had a pet banty rooster, he would sit on the back of a chair, and she would say "crow, Pete". Etta loved the woods, and knew all the names of the trees and flowers, and wrote many poems. she was very fond of Gypsies, going to their camps and dressing up to tell fortunes. Etta especially enjoyed the two summers she spent at the lodge in Enchanted Valley in the Olympic mountains, when the Olson bros owned it, before it was a national park. She had a pet bear she fed bacon scraps to. In the early 60s,she received an invitation to attend the Cameron Clan reunion in Scotland, her gma was a Cameron-Camburn. when she was about 78, she and Nancy ran away with the carnival, spent the summer traveling. Jim and Harold went over to Walla Walla after her, but she wouldn't go back with them. It was an adventure, she never worked for the carnival, Nancy had a popcorn and cotton candy joint. Etta raised Nancy, and they walked many miles every week out to the cemetery by the Elma fairgrounds. She told stories about being related to Robert E Lee,there are no records of it. Etta and Ethel always wore a tignon, the kerchief tied around the head. The sisters all had bright blue eyes, dark auburn hair, and the dark skin around their eyes from India. this picture is of Nano's great grandmother, Polly Monroe, the mother of Otis Stearns, which has come down thru the family many generations labeled as such. you can see the resemblance. Sue was the one who called her Nano so to all us kids she was always Nano. copies for your own personal info only.
