Abstract: Died Feb. 21, 1908. At 1136 E. 1st St., aged 59. He was a widower and an old resident of Long Beach. Funeral at the home with Rev. R.W. Cleveland officiating.

It's also possible the remains of his wife, Louise, are buried here. The Los Angeles Herald 9/16/1897 described her death:
A most distressing catastrophe occurred yesterday from an explosion of gasoline. Mrs. Louise Howell, wife of Hugh Howell, was preparing dinner about 1 o'clock on a gasoline stove. While she stepped out of the kitchen for a few moments a strong wind blew out the flame, and upon striking a match to relight it the gas exploded and set fire to her clothing. She ran out on the porch screaming with pain and fright, and Mr. Howell, who was working in the field saw her standing there in flames. He ran to the house for a blanket, threw It over her and then turned the water over her with a hose, but the flesh was so Badly burned that it fell off when her clothing was removed. She suffered great agony until her death in the evening. Mrs. Howell was about 63 years of age. She and her husband both being natives of Wale s. They oame to Alamitos from Oakland some eighteen months ago, have no children and no relatives in this country, they were in comfortable circumstances and had a beautiful home in Alamitos. Mrs. Howell was a member of the Presbyterian church, and was highly esteemed by a large circle of friends. Mr. Howell is almost crazed with the horror and bereavement. The funeral will held on Friday, and the remains will be temporarily interred in Long Beach.
