Arnold "Smokey" Bennett, 59, of Paynesville, died Monday, Aug. 23, at the Koronis Manor in Paynesville.

The memorial service was held at 2 p.m. on Thursday at Johnson Funeral Home in Paynesville, with the Rev. Rich Hubert officiating. Interment was held in the Paynesville Cemetery.

Arnold "Smokey" Bennett was born on Sept. 7, 1939, in Albert Lea. He was the son of Michael and Gladys Bennett. Smokey attended school in Newport, where he worked at Bennett's Shoe Repair. He later moved to St. Cloud, where he worked at another shoe repair store. In 1997, he moved to Paynesville.

Smokey enjoyed building model airplanes. He loved music, and was talented at playing the keyboard and guitar.

He is survived by his mother, Gladys, of California; sisters, Pat Otley of St. Paul, Neva Gay of Missouri, Mary Bennett of Iowa, and Donna Bennett of Chicago; and brother, Stanley Bennett of South Dakota.

He was preceded in death by his father.
