Wilbert Cleo Jennings, 71, of Beecher City died at 1:45 p.m. Saturday (May 11, 1996) in the Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Lockart & Sons Funeral Home, Beecher City, with visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday. Burial will be in Mound Cemetery, Cowden, with military rites. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Mrs. Jennings was born Nov. 16, 1924 in Fayette County, the son of Dewey and Ada Wright Jennings. He married Catherine Evans on Sept. 18, 1949 in Cowden. He served his country during World War II and a member of the Effingham American Legion. He is a survivor of the Gambier Bay ship sinking by the Japenese in Leyte Gulf. He belongs to the Gambier Bay Association, received the Asiatic Pacific Area Ribbon, three stars, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon, one star, World War II Victory Ribbon, Philippine Presidential Citation, the U.S. Presidential Ribbon and the American area Ribbon. He retired from Blaw-Knox in Mattoon.

He leaves to mourn his wife Catherine of forty-seven years, his two sons, Terry Jennings and his wife Brenda of Parker, Colo., and Barry Jennings and his wife Laurie of Beecher City; four granddaughters, Tina Shepherd of Decatur; Teresa Sheperd of Parker, Colo., Tammy Shepherd of Fort Worth, Texas and Mackenzie Jennings of Beecher City; one grandson, Joshua Jennings of Beecher City; brothers, Leonard Jennings of Effingham, Dean Jennings of St. Elmo, Ronald Jennings of Clear Lake, Iowa, Johnny Jennings of Louisville, Ky., and Victor Jennings of Gibson City; sisters, Arlene Niehaus of Effingham, Delva Krost of St. Elmo, Linda Barker of Flomaton, Ala., and Joyce Etta Rogers of St. Elmo. He will be sadly missed by his family, many nieces and nephews and his card-playing buddies.
