In August of 1862, Louisa Augusta Leavitt married her first cousin, Franklin Benjamin Sanborn. She had been a teacher in his school in Concord. She and Frank lived for three years in The Old Manse, where the first of their three sons was born. They rented the Thoreau home after the death of Cynthia Thoreau. For a while they lived in Springfield, where the third of their sons was born. In 1880, they built a house on the Sudbury in Concord which still stands but is privately owned. From 1891-1901, poet Ellery Channing lived with the Sanborns. Louisa died a year after Frank, and was laid to rest at his side. She was proceeded in death by her son Thomas Parker Sanborn. Francis Bachiler Sanborn is also buried in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, and son Victor Channing Sanborn is buried in Chicago.
