John served in the Army from 1941 to 1945. He was a Sergeant of the 31st Field Artillery Battalion. The battles and campaigns he fought were the Aleutians, Southern Philippines and Eastern Mandates. He received the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, American Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 2 Bronze Stars. John was very proud as well as scarred for his accomplishments during the war. In 1945, he received a letter from the office of the Commanding General, addressed to the officers and men of the Seventh Division for their accomplishments during the Okinawa Campaign.
John was married to Marion Ebright (Filter). During their marriage they had four children.
Family memories of John's accomplishments were when he was 16 he took people into Yosemite Sierra National Forest by horseback with pack horses. This was a 4 day ride. Also as a heavy equipment operator he was the job superintendent to building the Los Angeles International Airport. The entire project was moving 3,000,000 cubic yards of earth fill over 2100 acres.
John is survived by his sons, John and Ronald Aldax; daughters, Margaret Buskirk and Dianna Meinz; two brothers, James Aldax, Jr. and Pierre Aldax both of Chico; and sister, Kate Verardi of Yuba City along with 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
