Andrew Newborg immigrated with his family in 1870 from Norway to Goodhue county Minnesota. The family used the maternal surname of Ohnstad after leaving Norway and arriving in Minnesota.

Andrew's older siblings continued using the Ohnstad surname but in the 1880 census Andrew who was still living with his parents Hans and Annie used Hanson as their surname possibly because there were many families using the Ohnstad family name in their community. In the 1885 Minnesota census Andrew and his parents are using the paternal Nyborg surname and that is the surname used in the Lutheran church 1889 death/1890 burial record of the father Hans Nyborg. Hans Nyborg died on Dec 30 1889 with an April 1890 burial when the ground was not frozen.

After the death of Andrew's father Andrew and his mother Annie move to Lessor township adjacent to Mcintosh Minnesota where his sister Ingberg and her husband Lars Evenmo live. His other sister Christine Quamme and family also homesteaded in this area and in Thief River Falls.

In the 1900 US census Andrew Newborg is homesteading in Bottineau county. In the 1910 census he is living in Newborg Township, Bottineau County, North Dakota; which was named after him as he was an early homesteader. He has now been married and divorced and has employed a housekeeper/nurse who is taking care of his 90 year old mother mother Anna who is using the Newborg surname which has been Americanized.

Andrew Newborg appears next in the 1930 US census living with his sister in Thief River Falls Minnesota. After the death of his sister Christine in 1931 he appears in the 1934 city index and again in the 1940 US census living in Thief River Falls as a lodger.

When Andrew died in 1950 at Thief River Falls at the age of 87 there are no nearby siblings and he had no wife or children. The informant for the information on his death certificate gave the wrong birth date/year and even the names of his parents.
