Francis Hugh Metcalf, 73, of Barnardsville, N.C., died Tuesday, December 8, 1964 in an Asheville, N.C. hospital after a long illness.
He was a native of Madison County, N.C., and a retired farmer. He was the son of the late John Nelson Metcalf and Sarah Louise Blankenship Metcalf, and had lived in Barnardsville, N.C. for the past 35 years.
He was survived by his wife, Effie Mae Whittemore Metcalf of the home; three daughters, Mrs. Lewis F. Bryan and Mrs. Bobby D. Edwards, both of Asheville, N.C. and Mrs. C.H. Rogers of Barnardsville, N.C.; four sons, Eugene Metcalf of the home, Gordon Metcalf of Asheville, N.C. and Howard & John Metcalf of Barnardsville, N.C.; a brother, Carl Metcalf of Burnsville, N.C. and 12 grandchildren.
Holcombe Funeral Home of Mars Hill, N.C. handled the arrangements. Burial was in the Tildon Metcalf Cemetery.
