Andrew Ray Beard, 87, of 712 W. 7th St. S., a resident of Newton since 1963, died Monday, June 23, at the Embassy Manor Care Center.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.
Dr. Richard Bentzinger, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Union Chapel Cemetery in Ira.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. today. Visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Survivors are his wife, Crystal; two sons, Lester Ray and Larry Eugene, both of Newton; a daughter, Betty Galloway of Newton; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and six brothers.
Mr. Beard, a member of the First United Methodist Church, had farmed in the Mingo, Ira, Colfax and Newton communities, had been custodian at the First Christian Church for 10 years and night custodian at Woodrow Wilson Elementary School for four years.
The son of Bion and Emma McKeever Beard, he was born March 8, 1899 in Mingo and attended Mingo schools.
He was married to Crystal Holtz June 1, 1921 in Ira.
