Betty M. Galloway, 86, of Newton died Sunday, March 25, 2012, at Newton Health Care in Newton. A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 29, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton. The family will greet friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, at the funeral home. Memorials to the Salvation Army Food Pantry or the Jasper County Animal Rescue League may be left at the funeral home.

Betty, the daughter of Andrew and Crystal (Holtz) Beard, was born July 8, 1925 in Ira, Iowa. She was a graduate of Mingo High School. She was united in marriage with Jack Galloway on November 16, 1946 in Des Moines. Betty had worked for the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service for many years. She had been a member of the Ira United Methodist Church and was active in the VFW Auxiliary and American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed bowling, camping, fishing, and she loved cats.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Jack.

Survivors include her two brothers, Larry (Kathryn) Beard of Newton and Lester (Barbara) Beard of Des Moines; her nieces and nephews: Karen (Gary) Stewart of Des Moines, David (Sue) Beard of Des Moines, and Gene (Jennifer) Beard of Ankeny; and many cousins.
