"Chesley Allen was born October 11, 1897 in Comanche, Texas, where he lived until he was 17 years of age. His parents were Ruben Alexander Allen and Martha Melinda (Goosby) Allen, both formerly of Lynchburg (Moore County), Tennessee.
Mr. Allen married Ruth Gentry in Marietta (Love County), Oklahoma on June 14, 1931. The couple resided in Fort Worth (Tarrant County), Texas for many years and were there at the time of his death.
Chesley Allen was a World War I veteran and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He died January 30, 1964 in the VA Hospital in Dallas (Dallas County), Texas and was buried in the Decatur Cemetery in Decatur (Wise County), Texas.
At the time of his death, Mr. Allen was survived by his wife, Ruth; a son, Dr. D. Allen of Greensboro, South Carolina; and four sisters, Mrs. D.W. (Viola) Stewart of Comanche, Mrs. R.L. (Vera) Stewart of Sidney, Mrs. Dave (Connie) Drennan of Grand Prairie, and Mrs. O.V. (Bea) Kintner of Seattle, Washington.
Mr. Allen had an unusual and tragic accident. He was kicked in the eye by a horse on his father's farm when he was just a youngster, and he lost the sight in one eye at that time. Years later while he was sitting in the stands at a baseball game in the Dallas-Fort Worth area a foul ball hit him in his good eye. He was blind for the remainder of his life.
