Leo is the beloved Grandad of my three daughters.

The fifth of nine children born to John Julian & Susan Lenora "Nora" (Barnes) Armstrong of Yell Co AR, Leo married America Lea Pickens on 16 Sep 1925 in Yell Co AR, the daughter of Samuel Kimbul & Martha Ella (Womack) Pickens. They had seven children, four sons and three daughters. The first born, a son, was stillborn in 1926.

A retired rancher, Leo was a tall, large man and a very hard worker all his life. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to play practical jokes. When he played a joke on someone, his face would light up with a sly, mischievous smile and his blue eyes would sparkle. He always kept a "spittoon" next to his recliner and chewed tobacco while he and Meck watched Professional Boxing on TV.

I have seen Leo tired from a long, hard day working, but never saw him in a bad mood. He always had a smile for everyone. Rest in Peace dear Leo.

Special Note: The home of the Armstrong family has a long history, beginning in 1883. Because of its history, it has been relocated to Old Poway Park, Poway, San Diego Co CA. Read more about this house at www.Poway.org.

Leo and Meck Armstrong purchased the Nelson House about 1959 and lived there until 1980. They then rented it out until 1987, when it was sold and eventually acquired by the City of Poway and moved from Garden Road to Old Poway Park. In the fall of 1991 the City and the Historical Society agreed to the restoration of the house. The Thanksgiving picture was taken in the dining room of this same home.

Much appreciation and thanks to:
Arlena Boggs for a tombstone photo.
Leo and Meck's son Art for the family photo and sponsorship of this memorial.
