Johann Friedrich Wicke, known as Frederick, would have been almost 21 when he fought against Napoleon's army in the Battle of Waterloo and received a medallion. On one side of this medallion is recorded "HANNOVERSCHER TAPFERKEIT" and "WATERLOO JUN XVIII" and the other side has a bust and the words "GEORG PRINZ REGENT 1815". On the edge of the medallion is printed "GRENEDIER BATTALION VEEDEN - SOLDAT FRIEDRICH WICKE".

Frederick was born in Lagershausen, Hannover, Germany. He married Louisa on September 23, 1821 in Denkershausen, Hannover, Germany.

Church records of 1st St. John's, Seebach's Hill, indicate Frederick was born July 1, 1794 and, with his wife, Louisa, immigrated from Lagershausen in 1846. Frederick leased 100 acres at Lot 19, Concession 2, Ellice Township from 1846 to 1854. The 1861 census shows they lived in the village of Sebringville.

On October 27, 1858, a record of the purchase for the one acre plot of land, upon which 2nd St. John's, Wartburg Church is built, shows that Charles Famme, Christian Dietrich and Frederick Wicke were trustees of this German Lutheran Church.

Church records of 2nd St. John's Wartburg record his death as Jan. 7, 1868 and burial Jan. 9, 1868.
