William Brittain bought Federal land in Hamilton County, Indiana, on September
9,1835. It is located just east of Clarksville and north of State Road 38. It is
bordered by present day East 169th street, Cynthianne Road, Bank street and the
Hamilton-Madison County line. (Section 5, Township 18 North, Range 6 East, 2nd
Principal Meridian.) His brother, Soloman, had a farm on the north edge of his
property.
Another brother, Johnathan, lived less than 2 miles east-northeast of him in
Madison County. This property was located just south of the junction of present
day state roads 13 and 132 in Lapel.
William and Catherine are buried in the northwest corner of a small cemetery on
private property about a quarter of a mile southwest of the intersection of
169th Street and the Hamilton - Madison County line.
