Susan was born March 24, 1927 in St. Louis, MO to Mildred (Oldfield) and Oscar (Lefty) Fuhr, and ended her earthly journey May 31, 2008 at Methodist hospital in Dalls following a miraculous 13 year battle with mutiple myeloma.

Her father was a professional baseball pitcher and the family moved several times in her youth, finally settling in East Texas, where he pitched for the Humble Oil company semi-pro team. Susan graduated from Overton High School in 1944 and then from what is now Texas Women's University in Denton with a degree in speech and drama in 1948. During college she worked as a model and buyer for Neiman-Marcus in downtown Dallas.

Following graduation she went to work for Braniff International Airlines in reservations and persued an acting career in a local theatre company where she met, and was directed by, a young Aaron Spelling. She turned down a Hollywood contract when she married the love of her life, Conway Childers on May 27, 1949 at Oak Cliff Christian Church and made her home in Dallas.

She retired from Braniff as a supervisor in reservations in 1982 and went to work for the Army Air Force Exchange Service, retiring in 1987 to her home on Lake Whitney. In 1997, she moved to Ennis to be closer to family.

Susan was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 59 years; daughters Val Johnson and husband John of Lake Cherokee, TX and Conni Durbin and her husband Stephen of Ennis; grandsons Craig Johnson and wife Betsy of Woodsboro, TX, Brian Johnson and wife Courtney of Ft. Worth and Christian Durbin of Ennis; great-grandsons Coty and Cameron Johnson of Woodsboro and brother John Fuhr and his family of Denton.

We will miss her dramatic stories, chocolate chip cookies, "Happy Birthday" serenades and unwavering love and encouragement. She was the best wife to Conway, the greatest role model for her daughters and the perfect grandmother to her grandsons. We are comforted by the knowledge that she has been reunited with her parents and is at peace in the arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ.

Visitation will be held Tuesday from 7pm-8:30pm at JE Keever Mortuary in Ennis. Funeral services will be held at 1:30pm Wednesday, June 4 in the Chapel at Keever's with burial to follow at Laurel Land Cemetery in Dallas. The family requests that memorials be made to the International Myeloma Foundation or the church of your choice.
