C F Whitaker, 79, Laid to Rest

Funeral services for Clinton Whitaker, 79, well known grocer of Houston who died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John D Hamilton, in Memphis Thursday night at 10:20 were held from the family residence in Houston Saturday morning at 10 o'clock.

The Rev. Everett Day, pastor of the Church of Christ, officiated. Hill Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He was born in Iuka, Miss., on July 30 1872. He was married to Miss Marguerite Owings of Saltillo, who died in 1911. To this union were born three children, a son who died in infancy, two daughters, Bernice Sue Whitaker who preceded him in death, and Marie Hamilton of Memphis.

On December 24 1914, he was married to Miss Lucina Stewart of Vardaman, who died in 1939. In 1941 he was wed to Miss Maybelle Haynes of Okolona, who survives him.

He was a prominent grocer in Houston and Vardaman, Miss., for 29 years, until his retirement five weeks ago.

He leaves his wife, one son, Clinton F Whitaker, Jr.; two sisters, Mrs Annie Price and Mrs. Molly Holder of Memphis, two brothers, H C Whitaker of Memphis and S B Whitaker of Corinth.

He was a member of the Houston Church of Christ.

Active pallbearers were, Armstrong Farr, Charlie Anderson, Fred Dulaney, Tom Scarbrough, T D Rowlette and James Kyle.

Honorary pallbearers were, John W Hill, W B Tabb, J F Tabb, Cleve Doss, John Kellum, A N Myatt, S K Gore, O V Saxon and C K Alexander.
