Lillian Rosaline Dobson Chase, daughter of John Franklin Dobson and Sarah Jane Kenyon Dobson. Her father was an ambitious and adventurous farmer, who took his family (wife and 12 children) to new locations as he sought new and productive farm lands. About 1916, Lillian's father moved his family moved from Guthrie County, Iowa, to Minnesota. A few years later, she met Elijah Allen Chase, then married on March 10, 1924 in Mankato, Blue Earth County, Minnesota.

Their first child, Verna, was born in Blue Earth County. Then a couple years later, Lilian and Elijah ('Lij') moved back to Iowa, settling in Webster County and remaining there, farming and raising their family of seven more children (8 total, Verna, Virvel, Velma, Vearl, Vera, Vivian, Vernon, and Victor) for the next 27 years.

One year after retiring from the farm, Elijah and Lillian moved to Port Hueneme, California in 1956. Five of their eight children had already moved to Ventura County, California by that time. Lillian and Lij lived in Port Hueneme for the remainder of their lives.
