Her father was a Methodist minister who died when Cassie was 3, six months after they arrived in Hawera (which is 480m south of Warkworth)
Cassie married Leonard Saywell Tarrant in Hawera when she was 24 and he was 26.
They were both great music lovers, he was a very keen member of the male choir and Cassie was a music teacher and organist at the Wesley church for many years
Leonard died just 12 years after they married - he had a cerebral aneurysm and was transferred to Auckland for surgical/medical treatment but died there. Cassie was unable to afford to have his body returned for burial in Taranaki.
Cassie was left to bring up 2 young boys - without the benefit or a widow's pensions, she provided by teaching music - they were both educated at New Plymouth High School and both became accountants
Cassie was a widow for 54 years, she never remarried
Cassie gave up music teaching when she was in her 60s but was involved in many other activities, like Hawera Country Women's Institute, floral arranging, gardening, etc.
A thank you to Cassie's granddaughter Jan who supplied me with information of this family ...
